It's Hard Work...........

lookin' this cute. Literally, hard work. I have never seen a boy with such high maintenance hair. Having a girl could not be any worse. Our regular morning hair routine is as follows: entire head sprayed with detangler, brush out curls with a wet hair brush, apply curl scrunching gel to hair, blow dry while cupping curls in your hand (so as not to create frizz) and follow with sprunch spray to hold in place. How I'm ever going to teach him this I don't know. I have a bad feeling that as he enters his teenage years that all this hard work is going to go down the drain and he's going to show up everywhere with a head full of nappiness. Bobby has been present for several hair sessions so he could learn the routine and perform it in my stead should he need to. Although it takes a lot of "doin' " to get it right, the end product sure is cute!

Caught It!!!.........Almost.

In celebration of St. Patrick's Day Cade had to build a leprechan trap for school. They set them out overnight in hopes of catching the little critter that had been responsible for the havoc in their classroom. This is how Cade found his trap at school. The story he told goes as such: Apparently the leprechan climed up the ladder, tried to get to the gold, noticed he was going to fall in the hole, stumbled, knocking over the entire trap and in the meantime.........
caught his underwear on something. So, now, if it weren't bad enough to have a little green man running through the school, there is now a little green NAKED man running through the school.
He did leave Cade some gold which really made Cade super excited.
Here is the little leprechan that lives at our house. Lucky for me he USUALLY wears his underwear.

Like, What Just Totally Happened??

So, Bobby and I decided to host an Eighties Murder Mystery Party this weekend. It turned out to be quite a time! Every person invited had a character to portray and halfway through the party someone, like, totally got killed! Bobby was Peter Pinkman, a ghostbuster with a problem I won't discuss on this forum, and I was Samantha Pinkman who, unfortunately, was found out to be the killer at the end of the night!
I was laughing so hard as everyone was arriving that I got a stitch in my side and my cheeks were killing me. Gladonna, Mr. P, Talex Towens and Shaggy-Goo Oxide all rolled in at the same time.
Even famed rockers Jeven Rearcie and Patty Plane showed up. Here's the best shot I got of the guys. Unfortunately my camera was on the fritz and non of my pictures turned out great. Today, the poor girl is completely dead so I don't know what I'm going to do to recover from this travesty. My camera, as most of you know, is like an additional appendage to me.

The girls.
We were so happy to have a visit from the vintage Tammy Faye Bakker. She did cry the whole night though and that was a drag. We topped off the night with a little "80's Couple Idol". I think these folks took the cake with their redition of "You Can't Touch This". I haven't seen the MC Hammer dance in quite some time.
I just know Bobby and I were a close second singing our tribute to Patrick Swayze with "I've Had the Time of My Life". I totally belted it and I'm sure A'lyce, who is the co-director of Pre-School Choir at church, is going to rally for my immediate dismissal as kindergarten choir teacher. We had a great time and loved hosting. Thanks for re-living the 80's with us and I'm sorry I killed you, Jonathan.

Snow Day!!.........Seriously This Time!!

Today was an exciting day at the Morgan's with a record 2 inches of snow on the deck, according to the Snow measuring stick that Cade made at school. This was the first time Rhett has ever seen a substantial amount of snow and he loved it.....until his hands got frozen and his boots kept falling off. He spent most of the morning on all fours screaming for help. " is too swippery!!"
This is just a sad photo. Had they been old enough, the boys would have been totally humiliated that they were sledding down our hill on a cardboard box cut up by their father. We do not own a sled and apparently not too many stores carry a stash to put out last minute around here. And gee wiz, bathing suits are already out. What makes me think they would also have sleds?

Cade took a face plant and managed to dust most of the snow off his face before I took this picture.
And, last, good kisses from Rhett to his daddy.......before snot was covering his lips. There were a couple pics of me that will make it into the "official" scrapbook but unfortunately, just as I was walking out the door I was tackled by the fashion police and they chastised me for the horrible array of clothing that I had chosen. I thought it was flattering...........if you like being compared to a refrigerator.

A Tale of Two Rooms

It was a day fairly ordinary. We had our normal routine. I went to the gym. The boys played with their friends. We came home to eat snack and do a little more playing. I had time to pick up all of the upstairs. I was so proud of all I had accomplished in such a short period. Everything was going well I thought. As a matter of fact, unusually well. No fighting. No hitting. The boys (minus Cade who was at school) were being very cordial with one another. So cordial that I thought to myself, "I think this is a good time to get the dishes done downstairs." I had just finished folding several loads of their laundry and had put them all away. It was a good day. I headed to the kitchen. Still quiet. Put away dishes, made lunch. Nearly ate all of my own lunch. Still quiet. Wow. What a great day! I called the boys down to eat and they came immediately. The sun was shining on me this day! Fast forward about an hour. I am headed upstairs to put Rhett in his bed for nap when I see THIS. Aghast and unable to speak I turned to Grant who was behind me and I stared at him with bug eyes. Finally, "are you the one that did this??". Of course he didn't fess up. He just threw Rhett under the bus, but I could tell from his face that he had definately been an accomplice. I ordered him immediately to his bed and followed him to make sure he obeyed. That's when I saw THIS.
Not a stitch of clothes in EITHER dresser in EITHER child's room. All the shorts, shirts, pajamas, underwear, swim trunks, socks......EVERYTHING strewn around the room. Let me just add that this occurance happened only a few short days after I walked into Grant's closet and found every item off the hangers in the floor. And piled upon that was every piece of clothing in my large 3T rubbermaid waiting to be stored for future use. Not happy. My swift punishment made me feel like the Soup Nazi on Seinfeld because I quickly turned around to both of them and snatched their gummy snacks right out of their hands and stated, "NO SNACKS FOR YOU!!" That was the worst punishment I could have administered at that moment. Tears.....oh how the tears flowed for both of them.
So, all the while, when I thought my day was going so well and I was basking in the quiet, savoring my turkey sandwhich, a massacre had taken place on all the work that I had taken so much pride in having accomplished. That could be the lesson here, friends. See where pride gets you?? It always cometh before a fall................

*please note that all pictures were taken AFTER I had spent time in the prayer closet and renewed myself. It was only then that I could view this as a blogworthy moment*

Ahh. And Alas, They Return.

Cade's glasses have returned from a 2 week hiatus. I'm unsure of why they chose to run off like they did. I thought they were perfectly happy helping him to see each day. From the way he explained it, they practically jumped off his face and took off which was no fault of his own. The way I understood it (using my mother ears) was that he was tired of them and laid them down in a very unreasonable place.......the hallway. Was there not a better alternative? Say, the desk, or the counter, your backpack? Here's a new one---your face??? Luckily, a nice teacher from Cade's school noticed the dirt laden glasses frolicking in the grassy knoll by the teacher's parking lot and was ever so gracious to return them to us, undamaged if you can believe it. This is his rendition of my reaction. But give me some credit. Here is just a little background. Cade was introduced to glasses in February of 2007. The pair you see in his hand is his 5th pair and it's only February 2008. That is one pair of glasses every 2.4 months for those of you trying to do the math. Now, insurance does pay.........for the first pair. And the nice place we bought them from does a half price deal for the second, even the third pair. But by the fourth pair they looked at me with disdain and I'm sure proceeded to gossip about me when I walked out of the store.

I'm now taking a close up shot of the glasses so that, in the future, I will be able to make "Wanted" posters when they decide to go AWOL on me.

No, Department of Children's Services...

We do not need you to pay us a visit. Given the many comments we received yesterday regarding Rhett's unfortunate eye issues, I felt it necessary to post a rebuttle. This swollen, bruised, scabby (is that a word?) eye is the result of a mishap between Rhett and his gramma's picnic table. It actually doesn't look so bad in the picture because you can't see the bluish hue so well. I knew there was idle chat going on at church when our preacher approached us before the service to question our parenting. I did reply, in my best country hick accent, "Ain't that what the Bible says to do when yer kids ain't mindin' ?" Rhett is recovering well though. Next time he picks a fight with someone or someTHING he needs to choose more wisely.
