Who Knew?

My parents so graciously watched the boys for us for a date night last weekend. As usual, they had something really cool planned. No wonder the boys never want to come home after staying with them. They are forever going to the river or doing something crazy like camping out in the backyard. Today my dad planned to take them fishing.........in the little creek that runs through our backyard. He came with poles in hand ( two with little hooks, one that was just pretend). That could be the reason for Little Buddy's long face in this pic. If you look closely you can see he is pouting about something or other. Dad said Grant only snagged Rhett's shirt once with the hook so I'm guessing that this could've been a reason for the forlorn look as well.
And, who knew?? Apparently fish like hotdogs. I guess that's what you use when you're in a pinch. G.W. reeled in the catch of the day. And, again, who knew there were catchable, sizable fish in that little creek?? Looks like I'm on to something new for dinner time! Finally!!
Thanks, Dad, for the fishing lesson!

Okay, I'll Do It....

Because my friend Ashley tagged me and I value our friendship I will take part in this "tagging" game. Also, my life is lacking in blog material lately and I feel like I need to update so my faithful five readers won't decide not to check my blog anymore. Besides, one day when I re-read my blog book it may be funny to read what I thought back in 2008. Here goes:

7 Things I want to do before I die:

1: Potty train Rhett.........

2: Hold my own grandchildren.

3:Take a trip to Hawaii with just Bobby

4: Put pink bows in the hair of a girl that is my own.

5: Potty train Rhett ( That was included twice purposefully.)

6: Be fluent in Spanish.

7: Actually use the Spanish somewhere other than my front yard with the yard guy.

7 Things I can do:

1: Exercise

2: Make chocolate chip cookies

3: Eat a turkey sandwhich nearly every day for lunch since 1990 and still look forward to it.

4: a headstand

5: birth babies with no medication

6: Take a good power nap.

7: Get completely stumped coming up with things I can do.

7Things I cannot do:

1: Potty train Rhett

2: drink after anyone

3: Eat a steak

4: Grow flowers that look like my mom's

5: touch my toes

6: leave the house without gum and lip balm

7: stay awake through an entire movie if it starts past 8 pm

7 Things that first attracted me to Bobby:

1: His baseball pants ( I was in highschool, people.)

2: His kindness.

3: His athleticism.

4: His generosity.

5: His high and tight haircut.

6: His Trapper Keeper

7: Did I mention his baseball uniform??

7 Things I say most often:

1: 5! 4! 3! 2!........when I get to one someone is losing privileges!

2: Brush your teeth!

3: Can't we all just be kind to one another?

4: Get your clothes on.

5: Bathtime!!!

6: What's wrong with you??

7: No crying.

7 Celebrity Crushes from Childhood

1: Corey Haim

2: Patrick Swayze

3: Keanu Reeves

4: Kirk Cameron

That's really all I can think of.

7 People to tag:

I don't think I have 7 people that read this blog. But, M and Kelly S. if you're reading you've been tagged.

It's Big and It's Yellow

And my kid is on it. I finally let Cade talk me into letting him ride the school bus. We all went out to wait for it at the designated stopping point near our house. Everyone was clad in the t-shirts that Bobby brought back from his weekend of baseball. When we got to the stop sign Cade said, "My self feels like it's on daycation or something!" I said, "What do you mean??" His reply,"I don't know. I'm just so excited!!" Funny, but I don't rememeber EVER feeling that way waiting on the bus. My experience could be best described by the word "dread". Ahh. Five minutes of waiting and here she rolls.
Yup. Right bus. Here is the familiar face I was told to look for. Thanks for the frantic waves, friend. That made me know without a shadow of a doubt that I wasn't putting him on the bus to the high school.

I snapped a pic just before they rolled away but didn't quite get a good one. I was glad to see they had chosen the Emergency Exit seat. You know, in case there was an emergency or something. You would've thought that today was the first day of school ever all over again. I think just putting Cade on the bus brought a whole new sadness to the day. G walked back to the house completely desolate and I thought he was going to cry.
No sooner than the bus was out of sight, Little Buddy said, " I already miss him" and picked up his boppy and Chicky Bear to do the slow walk home.

Rest assured, not five minutes after all the moaping and groaning they were just fine. It was then they remembered that Cade being at school equaled a free for all with the Legos. It doesn't take much to soothe a little sadness sometimes!

(yes, dude is also part of his vocabulary).

Meeniac (noun)

Shicken (noun)

Short Body (noun)

?????? I've been called a lot of things in my lifetime but "short bodied" has never been one of them. I'm not even sure what that means. I am thankful that the stranger filled me in on this conversation but I am a little distrubed that she found me. Was it because she spotted my short body? Hmmmm.

First Day First Grade!

Today Cade officially became a real First Grader! He was actually very compliant about going and was a little excited (and nervous). Much to my dismay, he slept later this morning than he has the ENTIRE summer and I had to wake him to get ready for school. What's up with that?? Why couldn't that have happened on any given day in the months of June or July? G gave him a farewell hug. He had no heart wrenching words as he did last year. I guess he realizes the Lego freedom he will have once Cade is confined to school 5 days a week. It opens up a whole new realm of play.

We ran into our best bud going in to school. They didn't get the same teacher again this year but I'm sure it's for the better. If they didn't have the same name you might think they are brothers the way they act sometimes. The new teacher, Mrs. K. I think she is going to be a good fit for Cade. Only time will tell for sure!

This is how I left him..... Sitting at his new little desk area getting ready to color or something. Today is just a half day so I'm sure there won't be any "real" learning but I'm excited to hear what his classroom is going to be like. And waahoo! to the wrap-packs for school supplies. I didn't have to buy a single thing on my own and when we walked in it was all nicely placed in his spot already ready to be used. I'll definately do that again next year. And, yes, AJ, I'll give you a buzz about them :) Here's to the start of another school year!!

One Last Hoo-Rah

We spent a little time at the pool today. It will probably be the last hoorah of the summer having Bobby at the pool given summer coming to a close and our busy August schedule. Pool time is always more fun with the daddy because of dangerous things like this. I just don't perform as well as he does. Here are all of my boys. Deep down inside their gizzards are shivering because, unfortunately, the water has returned to sub-optimal temperatures which means they can count on me not getting in unless someone is drowning. Even then, I'll stand poolside and strongly encourage them NOT to be drowning before actually entering the arctic waters. please note exaggeration.
This is the wonderful little invention that changed Rhett's daily life. It allowed him to play like the big boy he THINKS he is. And it made his "canonball" yell really mean canonball. It will sit idly in the garage soon and hopefully will only be needed for the first part of next summer. I'm counting on Mr. Burts Swim Nazi School to kick this one in gear. What I'm really waiting for is when I can take them all to the pool and have little to no responsibility. Like, I can just sit and suntan and not worry about someone dying constantly. By the way, my suntanning days are over, really. I do wear an SPF 30. That is a big change from the highschool days where I purposefully would lie in the sun slathered in oils just hoping for a good burn. Motherhood has made me so much wiser :)
Stay tuned to see this guy become a real, live first grader tomorrow. After open house the other day he said, "My self thinks it's ready to go back to school now." I'm just glad his "self" told him something good. Usually "self" is saying things like "pinch your brother" or "eat the last piece of Grant's donut". Thanks Self for being encouraging for once!!

Just A Few

I won't be THAT person who makes you sit through the slideshow of their family on vacation when you really don't want to. I'm just going to put a few of our Mandatory Family Beach Photoshoot pics on here. If you want the full tour you are welcome to come by in 2012 when I get to this page in my scrapbooking.

No one was being 100% cooperative at during this little endevor....as you can tell from the two clowns in this picture. I was a little aggravated when I saw it in full screen once we got home but then I thought, "You know? This is just real life for us. Why would we want to record it any other way??". So, I got over it. My mom and dad.Little Buddy was the only one willing to have cute one on one shots with people. Don't go thinking that I favor him over the others. He was just the compliant one.

My crazy sister and I (along with well known photograper Roberto Morgano) tried our hand at a "real life" photoshoot. How fascinating the results........... There were many more along with this one. They will also be on display in 2012. Or for purchase on Snap-fish.
Mi madre y mi hermana. I love, love, loved this pic. Rhett was handing out all the goodness on Beach Photo Day.

And one last photo of Mr. I-Really-Want-My-Piece-of-Candy-After-This and his mommy. I'm just thankful the pink eye had cleared up for the most part and I don't look like a complete cyborg monster in the pic. This post concludes my wrap up from Beach Vacation 2008. Good times. Good memories.
